Oakwood Golf Resort (519-238-2324)
Ontario Golf Course Review
Oakwood Resort in Grand Bend, about 1 hour from Sarnia, is a full service resort that features stay and play golf packages ( 126 rooms) , a full service spa, dining venues,
tournament and banquet facilities, and a full practice range and learning centre. There also is an indoor pool and hot tub with sauna, tennis courts, children's playground, private
beach access ( on the shores of Lake Huron) and more! For more information, visit their website by clicking on this link www.oakwoodresort.ca .
The clubhouse features a pro shop and a dining area serving breakfast and dinner. There is a full practice facility with targeted range, and 2 separate practice greens for putting
and chipping.
The marking system on course includes 200, 150, and 100 yard stakes on all par fours and fives, and color coded flags indicate the hole's front, middle or back pin locations. This
undulating course is one of the most unique we have encountered, and was extremely fun to play. The First and tenth holes tee off from mat areas on the clubhouse porch ( see
first photo) - elevated tees to the par 3 first and par 4 10th. There are 2 more par threes on the course, that have matted tee areas.
This course is not long, but is extremely interesting - after playing it once, we were anxious to play the 2nd day. Most golfers will have the opportunity to use every club in their bag.
Three sets of tees play to yardages and slopes measuring from 4861 to 5466 yards, with slopes ranging from 106 to 116. As a par 70 - the layout features 8 par threes, 4 par
fours and 6 par fives ( one of them over 600 yards long). Golfers will encounter 3 par fives in a row on the back side where one can grip it and rip it, and the 7th/8th and 9th are all
par threes that will test your nerves and shot making abilities... very unique set of holes.
Water hazards come into play in some shape or form on 11 holes, and there are NO sand bunkers anywhere on the course. We highly recommend a round here. Save your
judgement until the round is over - you should be able to beat your handicap and enjoy a pleasant round! For more info, visit our alpha page for the course with direct link to their
website by clicking here.
