The Oaks of Cobden Golf Club (613-646-2003)
Ontario Golf Course Review
The Oaks Of Cobden Golf Club is located just off the TransCanada Highway in a spectacular area of the Ottawa Valley. It is a championship 18 hole 6427 yard par 71 course.
Designed by R.F. Moote and Associates this course offers a challenging layout for all skill levels. The front nine plays easier with some wide open holes. Although the back 9
plays a bit tighter, by the time you get to the 10th tee you should be loose enough to score well. The course is very scenic with lots of clean, pine woods. If you happen to go astray
, its quite easy to play out.
The Oaks has a great opening hole: a short (456 yard) par 5. It is wide open and uphill a bit. Second hole - a par 4 -doglegs to the left off of a nicely elevated tee with a stand of
pines on both sides of the fairway. To par or birdie this hole, you must drive a close to the middle of the fairway as possible at the marker or you'll find yourself with an uphill lie or
trees in your way. The third hole is an easy par 3 while the 4th hole (a short 329 yard par 4) has a picturesque but intimidating water hazard in front of the tee boxes. The 5th is
another par 3 followed by two wide open par 5 holes (the 6th and 7th). The 9th is a beautiful and elevated par 3 facing the clubhouse. The green is tricky so you'll need to be on
your putting.
The back nine is a bit more guarded with narrower fairways and lots of woods. The par 4 Number 10 is flanked by water hazards on both sides of the fairway and the tee box is
highly elevated giving you a false sense of distance. The green is very undulating and depending on the pin placement, it can be a challenge to par this hole. The 11th hole is a
401 yard par 4 that doglegs to the left. Trees line both sides of the very tight uphill fairway. This is perhaps the most difficult hole on this course. #12 is a very short par 4; only
308 yards. The tee box is elevated and a good hit will put you on the green (this hole will help you make up for any problems you may have had with #11). #13 is a 410 yard par 4
uphill climb that can play hard. The 14th hole is a pretty 131 yard par 3 that is guarded by bunkers on both sides of the front of the green. The green slopes toward the front so if
the pin placement is forward try to keep your shot shallow so you don't have a downhill putt. An easy par The 362 yard par 4 15th hole is very tight, the par 3 16th is a beauty with
a very fast and very undulating green and the 17th hole is an easy par 4 379 yards. The finishing hole has water to the right which is easy to avoid off the elevated tee.
The Oaks of Cobden is a real pleasure to play because of its fairness and the perfect conditioning of the course and it is a great value. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable
and the pro shop and menu selection is very adequate. The Oaks is affiliated with Logos Land Resort so they offer some great stay and play packages (visit their website at: www.logosland.com). A must play in the Ottawa Valley.
