Westview Golf Club (905) 727-0446
Ontario Golf Course Review - June, 2008
Westview Golf Club is a beautiful layout that traverses through the rolling woodlands near Aurora, Ontario just
north of Toronto. Opened in 1957 by visionary Colin Nisbet, Westview is still a family owned operation that has
evolved into twenty seven holes of challenging golf and is a member of the Audubon Co-Op Program.
On property is a range, practice green, and short game area. Lessons and clinics are available with C.P.G.A.
professionals and the course hosts a very effective Junior Golf Program as well as offering a customized lesson
program known as "Different Strokes". The well-appointed clubhouse features a pro shop, a restaurant offering
golfers fare and licensed lounge. The facility can accommodate outings and events for both large and small groups. Contact the General Manager, Colin Nisbet for more information.
Westview's twenty-seven hole layout is well marked with yardage stakes at 100, 150 and 200 yards (250 yards
on par 5's). Sprinkler heads and measured to the center of the green and a Golf Logix GPS located on all carts
provides accurate measurments to the pin. Hole locations are rotated daily and posted at the first hole of each
nine. Bluegrass teeboxes, fairways and rough are all carefully maintained and the bent grass greens are well-manicured.
We played the Middle and Homestead nines on our visit in early June, 2008. This combination offers a nice mix
of doglegs, uphill and downhill approaches, and long par threes. The ratings/slopes for the four sets of tee
boxes on the Middle/Homestead eighteen are: 71.5/133 men, 77.5/128 women (blues); 70.5/131 men, 76.4/127 women (whites); 67.3/125 men, 73.3/116 women (yellows); 63.5/114 men, 68.4/110 women (reds).
The Middle course is a very scenic design with narrow fairways, long uphill approaches and large mildly sloping
greens. Yardages are 3375, 3256, 2909 and 2497 and while this course will prove significantly difficult from
the back tees, the forward tees remove some of the hazards while still providing a challenging round.
The Homestead nine measured 3270 yards from the blue tees, 3180 yards from the white, 2889 from the yellow
tees and 2581 from the reds. Featuring some elevation changes, ample landing areas, interesting doglegs and smallish greens, the Homestead provides sufficient challenge for all levels of golfer.
Though we did not have the opportunity to photograph or play the Lakeland nine, we were assured by other
golfers that this layout is as scenic, if not more so, than the Middle nine - with more water in play.
Westview Golf Club is a perfect place for a tournament or outing and with able, friendly staff, a gorgeous layout,
excellent conditioning and close proximity to Hwy 404 and Toronto, we consider it a must play in the GTA! For more information on Westview Golf Club and a link to its website - click here.
