Ontario Golf Course Review 9/09/05
Kingsville Golf & Country Club in Kingsville, about 30 minutes from Windsor, is a 27-hole championship facility
featuring 3 distinctive nines - each enjoyable for all levels of skills. This review includes photos of the White and
Gold nines - arguably the two most picturesque of the three. The White nine features small greens that are often
protected by one or two sand bunkers on either side. The course begins with a short and fairly simple par four,
but provides considerable elevation changes on holes two and three, before leveling out during the stretch of holes four through eight, which provide parallel, tightly tree lined fairways.
The two par threes are gorgeous golf holes that play from elevated tee areas, to green complexes that are
fronted by a wide natural ravine on three and by the Wigle Creek on number nine. From the club's patio - which
features seating near the snack area (including breakfast sandwiches and lunch items), the reverse view of the ninth hole is quite spectacular.
The Gold nine is the longest of the three, and features significant elevation changes from tee to green with a
great variety of hole designs. The first and ninth hole are fairly level, but the remainder of the holes play from
elevated tees or head uphill to raised green complexes. The putting surfaces are larger and more undulating than those on the White layout.
The second hole is one of the most challenging par threes around, as it plays downhill from 238 yards away, with
a creek crossing in front. The long par four sixth is also a tough one with the same creek coming into play, and
number seven is the layout's top handicap - a beautiful dogleg left par four from an elevated tee area. Four sets
of tees allow golfers to choose from distances and slopes on the three courses, which measure from 6667 to
5069 yards, with slope ratings ranging from 128 to 106. Each nine provides 150 yard stakes and 200 yard
markers on the fairways of all par fours and fives, plus sprinkler heads that are measured to the center of the green. Small flags indicate front, middle or back pin placements.
Clubhouse facilities include a pro shop, restaurant with hot and cold sandwiches and beverages, locker rooms
with showers, plus banquet, outing and special event rooms that can accommodate up to 180 guests. A driving
range with 4 target greens is on property, and practice facilities also include a huge putting green plus short
game area that is set up with a chipping/pitching area and sand bunker. All carts are equipped with weather
covers, to protect clubs and bags on rainy days. Carts are always available, but walking is allowed at all times. For more info, visit our page for Kingsville, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
