Flamborough Hills Golf Club (905-627-1743)
Ontario Golf Course Review - August, 2006
Established in 1961, with an additional 9 holes added in 1994, Flamborough Hills Golf Club in Copetown,
Ontario is truely one of the area's hidden gems. Traversing over winding hillsides, over ponds and through
mature dense forest, this 27 hole championship course is a true test of skill for every level of golfer.
The staff at Flamborough Hills Golf Club is dedicated to provinding the best in service. A 10,000 square foot
clubhouse houses banquet facilities for groups of 300+, a members lounge, patio, and a licensed dining room
with an expansive menu featuring breakfast, lunch and dinner. A large pro shop is adjacent to the clubhouse and
is well-stocked with clubs, shoes, clothing, balls and golf paraphernalia. A CPGA pro is on land for lessons and clinics.
A grass range is located on property as well as an expansive practice green. The practice area also features a chipping green with bunkers. Golf carts are nicely appointed and provide bag covers.
Bunkering is sparse at Flamborough Hills and water comes into play on 7 holes. Four tee boxes offer a variety of
choices with the forward tees being woman friendly (ball washers and benches are even offered on many of
these tee boxes) but still a fair challenge. Yardage blocks are located at 100, 150 and 200 yards. Red, white
and blue flags indicate front, middle and back pin placements. Metal spikes are not allowed on this course.
The Hills and the Woods nines make up the original parkland style course. The real challenge of this tract is its
layout. Long narrow fairways that climb or drop drastically, thick forest-lined fairways and small target greens
should cause even experienced golfers to understand the importance of accurate club selection here. The
Woods nine features a trio of progressively longer par threes all back to back. Hole 4 plays 186 from the blues
and 157 from the reds, hole 5 plays 190 from the blues and 179 from the reds, and hole 6 plays 204 from the
blues and 192 from the reds. The green on the 6th hole is no bigger than a postage stamp! There are
approximately 24 bunkers and 3 water holes. The championship tees play 6356 yards while the whites play 6
,101 yards and the reds are 5,458. A new set of gold tees are located between the reds and whites and yardage information is not yet available.
The Lakes nine is also constructed over rolling terrain but has a more open feel and newer, larger greens that
are sometimes two-tiered and have severe undulations and slopes. Elevated tee boxes offer beautiful views of
rolling fairways where uneven lies can be the norm and tee shots can demand carries over natural areas and
ponds. This tract is absolutely stunning and fun to play. The blue tee box plays 3,254 yards, the white play 3,061 yards and the red play 2,557 yards.
Whether you choose to play the original 18 holes or mix and match any of the three nines available at
Flamborough Hills Golf Club, you are sure to find a combination that will challenge you while still providing a fun
and relaxing round. Located off Hwy 85 near Hwy. 403 just east of Hamilton, Flamborough is an easy drive from
the Greater Toronto Area. Reasonable rates, wonderful service and an a well-heeled, interesting layout make it worth the trip.
