Cardinal Golf Club (905) 841-7378
Cardinal Golf Club in Kettleby, Ontario is a beautiful 36-hole championship golf property that provides outstanding play and a majestic clubhouse as well as an executive course and a mini-putt course.
Constructed in 1981, the clubhouse at Cardinal Golf club has become a leader in hosting corporate, social and
fundraising events. This magnificent building is a 33,000 square foot structure designed by Richmond Hill
Architects Alan & Sheriff. Four banquet rooms, and executive room and a massive patio offer guests gorgeous
golf course views. Professional staff is friendly and capable of organizing and catering events for groups of 300+.
The clubhouse also features one of the most well-stocked golf shops in the area. Clothing, clubs, bags, shoes
and golf accessories are available at reasonable prices. Well appointed locker rooms with showers for both
men and women provide all necessary toiletries and towels (guests are advised to bring their own locks). A
coffee shop and snack bar is located across from the pro shop in the clubhouse and features a good selection of golfer's fare.
Practice facilities at Cardinal Golf Club are nothing less than first class. The expansive double-sided driving
range features both grass and mat stations and platforms, and target greens with accurate yardages. Two large
greens for putting and chipping are also available in the practice area. CPGA Golf Professionals at the
Academy at Cardinal Golf Club offer a wide variety of instructional programs for both groups and individuals and use various teaching aids including the Momentus swing trainer and ASTAR learning software.
Both 18-hole courses feature very well conditioned bent grass fairways and greens, and white sand bunkers.
Paved cart paths are marked at 100, 150 and 200 yards (and 250 yards on par 5's) and a 150 yard stake is
located in the center of the fairway. Sprinkler heads are marked to the center of the green. Red, white and blue
flags indicate front, middle and back pin placements. Three tee box choices are marked with yardage to the
center of the green and some tee boxes offer helpful yardage information on specific carries.
THE EAST COURSE
The par 72 East Course is the more scenic of the two courses on property, and is an interesting tract that
features elevation changes and beautiful views of the surrounding area on the front nine, and tight tree-lined
fairways on the back. The tees play 6,512 yards from the front, 6,026 yards from the middle and 5,366 yards
from the forward tee box. Water comes into play on 6 holes and the stream and adjoining wet areas demands
carries off the tee or on the approach on 6 of the holes. 37 sand bunkers dot the course and are mostly located near the greens or obvious landing areas on the side of the fairways.
The rolling hills and vistas as well as the carries and gently sloping greens make the East Course a wonderful challenge for any caliber of golfer.
THE WEST COURSE
Somewhat flatter than its counterpart East Course at the Cardinal Golf Club, the West Course presents its own
unique challenge to the golfer in the form of sand and water hazards. This par 71 parkland style layout plays 6
,404 yards from the front tees, 6,018 yards from the middle tees and 5,165 yards from the forward tees. The
course was recently renovated with larger level tee boxes, more water hazards (on 11 holes), and some strategically placed bunkering.
The landscaping throughout the West Course is sometimes elaborate and gives this tract a very classy look.
Some of the holes offer beautiful views of the stately clubhouse while others wind through seasoned stands of
Eastern Cedar and Spruce. A few of the holes take advantage of small elevation changes. Although this tract
appears easy, common sense course strategy and good club selection will be necessary to score well here.
Both the East and West Courses at the Cardinal Golf Club were in perfect condition on the day of our review.
Course Rangers encourage a comfortable rate of play and golfers on the course were in high spirits and seemed to be thoroughly enjoying their rounds.
Located between Jane and Keele on Highway 9 just north of Toronto, Cardinal Golf Club is within easy reach for
residents of the GTA. And the beautiful countryside, combined with the well-designed tracts of the 27 holes at the Club will afford a relaxing and interesting round of golf for any level of player.
