Ontario Golf Course Review
Canterbury Golf Club is a 2,196-yard par 31 nine hole layout that is part of GOLF NORTH - which manages a vast array of golf courses in Southeastern Ontario. These range from
shorter, player friendly designs to top notch championship layouts that will challenge the skills of all levels of players. Courses include Acton, Beaverdale, Brant Valley, Brookfield,
Burford, Calerin, Cedar Creek, Conestoga, Dundee, Fergus, Foxwood, Grey Silo, Kings Bay, Mystic, Oliver's Nest, Orangeville, Paris Grand and Scenic Woods. For info on these
properties CLICK HERE to visit the Golf North website.
Like King' s Bay Golf Club located just a few kilometers away, Canterbury Golf Club is one of Golf North's spectacular 9 hole courses. Located in Port Perry, Ontario, the course
winds its way through the Canterbury Commons subdivision, but does so in a way that disguises its somewhat "urban" location. Tree-lined and bermed fairways camouflage
homes that are nicely set back from the course. Needless to say, errant shots may infringe on private property and those are out-of-bounds.
Conditions on this course are impeccable! From tee to green, all grass is well-manicured and the bunkers are beautifully shaped and conditioned. The greens are all medium to
smallish in size with some slopes and undulations that increase the difficulty of this course - this is most noticeable on number 5 (a par 5 that plays to a small green with
protection all around).
There are three tee boxes with yardages of 2,196 yards, 1,996,yards and 1,823 yards. Water comes into play on 3 holes (#2, #6 and #7) and 31 sprawling bunkers dot the
fairways and protect the greens. Cart paths are partially paved and yardage markers are placed on the fairways at 100, 150 & 200 yards out on all par fours and fives. Color coded
flags indicate front/middle and back hole locations. Gas power carts are available but, although there are some small elevation changes at Canterbury, the course is very walkable.
On property is a small golf-shop and a licensed snack bar with patio offering a variety of warm and cold meals and snacks. While a practice green is available, there is no driving
range. Canterbury is a perfect course for an outing and course management specialize in organizing events and tournaments for up to 72 people.
This is a must-play course in the Port Perry area. You'll want to play 18 holes here - and even better - combine the beautiful 9 holes of Canterbury with the beautiful 9 holes of it's
neighbor King's Bay, and you'll experience a most challenging and enjoyable round of golf! Highly recommended by Two Guys Who Golf... For more on Canterbury Golf Club visit
