CANADIAN GOLF CLUB (613-780-3565)
Ontario Golf Course Review 7/25/2005
Canadian Golf Club in Ashton (southwest of Ottawa) is 27-hole golf facility that boasts that it has "something for
everyone". The West Course is a beautiful championship design with manicured fairways defined by mature
forests of pine and hardwoods, and with a significant amount of water hazards and high quality sand bunkering.
The nine-hole East course is a full length, but very player friendly layout - also tree lined but with significantly more room from tee to green.
Throughout golfers will encounter wonderful conditioning on the bent grass fairways and greens, with a great
variety of hole designs as well. The West presents a mix of tight tree lined fairways with some interesting
doglegs, plus a number of holes whose landing areas are more open, but are defined by water hazards. Beautiful ponds and crossing creeks add aesthetic beauty, and also create some challenges. The putting
surfaces are also varied in design - some with open, easily accessible fronts and others raised and well
protected by sand traps and mounding. Most of the bunkers, especially along the manicured fairways, are low lipped and non-penal in nature.
Four sets of tees are defined by color, but also are marked according to the scoring abilities of golfers (IE - the
tips are "score 80 and under", the next set are for players who score between 81-95, etc). The yardages
measure 6342, 5844, 5425 and 4946 yards, with the slopes ranging from 108 to 122 for men and 120 to 133 for
women. The East Course measures 6332 yards if played twice, with slope ratings between 121 and 129 for men, and 124 - 129 for women.
On property is a clubhouse with pro shop, locker rooms with showers (towels provided) for men and women, plus
a restaurant/lounge serving breakfast, lunch and dinner menus seven days a week in season. There is a banquet
facility upstairs that can accommodate up to 150 people, and the outdoor, screened-in patio can facilitate
functions in excess of 440 people. A grass range and practice green are adjacent, and a bonus - par three
practice hole is also available to green fee paying guests, who are given the choice to drive a cart or to walk this course at any time!
On course color coded yardage blocks are posted at 100, 150 and 200 yards, with white stakes visible at 150
yards on all par fours and fives. Uplink GPS - standard on all carts which also provide weather covers to keep
clubs dry during inclement weather, provides accurate yardages and course info from tee to the pin. Canadian
Golf Club prides itself on service, including a special provision which affords free club and cart rental for out of
town visitors who show their hotel room or car rental keys at the pro shop! What a nice incentive for business and
out of town travelers to play this fine course! The Golfer's Academy, which offers instruction by male and female
golf professionals, is also on property. For more info on this course and the amenities offered, visit our page for the Canadian Golf Club, with direct link to their website by clicking here.
