The Club at Bond Head - North Course (877-472-6348)
Ontario Golf Course Review - July, 2006
The newly opened North Course at the Club at Bond Head is a more traditional parkland style layout than its
counterpart South Course designed by Hurzdan-Fry and the use of the natural rugged landcape, meandering stream, and hardwood and conifer stands gives each hole a distinctive character.
The Club at Bond Head is beautiful 36-hole championship golf property with a spectacular clubhouse that
features a fully stocked pro shop and fine dining restaurant that is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner as well as
a Sunday Brunch. Lavishly appointed locker rooms with showers are available for both men and women (towels
and toiletries are complimentary for visiting guests and members). The beautiful banquet/outing facility is professionally staffed and can provide comfortable seating for up to 300 people.
Practice facilities include an elevated, targeted range with mat and grass hitting stations stocked with
complimentary Maxfli range balls, plus a putting and chipping green. On course golfers will find sprinkler heads
measured to the center of the green and 100, 150, 200 and 250 yard markers in the middle of the fairway. Three different pin placements are rotated and designated on a daily basis.
Our review took place only one week after its' July 1, 2006 opening, and the North Course was in magnificent
condition, with well manicured bent grass tees, fairways and greens, and beautifully sculpted free-form bunkers.
Tall golden fescue lining some of the fairways, bunkers and carries provided a dramatic contrast on many of the
holes. Greens are large with undulations and slopes that offer some very difficult pin placement opportunities.
Elevation changes on the North Course are sometimes severe and provide spectacular vistas of the rolling
terrain and countryside. Hole numbers 8 and 17 and fine examples of the architects' use of the dramatic
countryside and natural hazards. The expansive view also provides a beautiful backdrop to many of the golf holes.
The layout and the strategic placement of the 70+ bunkers on this course can make it extremely difficult for high
handicappers. The 7,085 yard championship tees will provide a very challenging round for scratch golfers while
the 6,547, 6,126, 5442 yard middle tee boxes will demand thoughtful club selection and accurate shots. The
forward tees at 4,667 take many of the forced carries out of play, but still provide a challenging test of golf skills.
The Club at Bond Head is a class act. Two beautiful 18-hole championship courses, a clubhouse offering the
finest service and amenities, and a complimentary practice area for golfers make this property seem more like a
private club. Accommodations are available at the Bed and Breakfast. Located only 40 minutes north of Toronto in Bond Head, Ontario, it is a must-play!
